Description

Experience the comforting flavors of stuffed cabbage rolls, a nostalgic dish that wraps savory beef, tender cabbage, and fragrant herbs into delightful parcels. Perfect for family dinners or cozy gatherings, this recipe is simple yet packed with flavor, making it a go-to comfort food any day of the week.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage: Boil water in a large pot. Submerge the whole head of cabbage for about 2-3 minutes until leaves soften. Remove and cool slightly; peel off individual leaves.
  2. Make the filling: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions and garlic until fragrant. Combine with ground beef, uncooked rice, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and herbs in a bowl. Mix well.
  3. Assemble the rolls: Take one softened leaf and place about two tablespoons of filling near the base. Roll from bottom to top while folding sides over to secure.
  4. Prepare baking dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish and layer rolls seam-side down.
  5. Add sauce: Pour remaining tomato sauce over rolls; cover tightly with foil. Bake for about 1 hour until rice is tender.
  6. Serve hot: Uncover carefully and let steam escape. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
