Homemade corn dogs bring the carnival to your kitchen with their crispy, golden-brown exterior and a deliciously savory hot dog center. Perfect for backyard barbecues or game day gatherings, these easy-to-make treats promise to delight family and friends alike. With a sweet cornmeal batter that encases your favorite hot dogs, every bite is a nostalgic trip down memory lane—ideal for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 8 hot dogs (beef or turkey)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat eggs and gradually add milk. Combine this with the dry ingredients until you achieve a thick batter.
  3. Heat the oil: In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Dip the hot dogs: Insert wooden sticks into each hot dog and dip them in the batter until fully coated.
  5. Fry: Carefully lower each battered hot dog into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Drain and serve: Remove from oil with tongs and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve immediately.
