- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, diced

- 1 cinnamon stick
- ½ teaspoon allspice powder
- Salt to taste
- 1¾ cups hot vegetable broth
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until clear to remove excess starch.
- In a medium saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Sauté the diced onion until golden brown.
- Add minced garlic, cinnamon stick, and allspice powder. Stir briefly until fragrant.
- Add the rinsed rice to the pan, stirring to coat with oil and spices.
- Pour in hot vegetable broth and add salt to taste. Bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let sit covered for an additional 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
