Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in peppermint extract.
- Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just blended.
- Fold in chocolate chips and optional crushed candy canes.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto lined baking sheets, spacing them two inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are firm but centers remain soft. Cool on wire racks before serving.
