  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Melt butter with water in a saucepan until bubbly. Stir in flour to form a smooth mixture.
  2. Remove from heat, let cool slightly; then add eggs one at a time, mixing vigorously until shiny and thick.
  3. Divide dough into two portions; spread onto parchment-lined baking sheets evenly.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely on wire racks.
  5. For the cream filling, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
  6. Spread half the cream between the cooled pastry layers and top with the remaining cream.
