Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast or 2 1/4 tsp
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for topping

Instructions

Making the Dough

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a stand mixer, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and flatten slightly.
  • Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Brush the tops with a little water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

These buns can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
