Ingredients

For the filling

  • 1 lb ground beef or shredded chicken
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded

For the tacos

  • 12 pieces corn tortillas
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

For toppings

  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 cup tomato diced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa

Instructions

Prepare the filling

  • In a frying pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  • Stir in cumin, chili powder, and salt. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and mix in shredded cheese until melted.

Assemble the tacos

  • Heat the corn tortillas in a dry skillet until warm.
  • Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each tortilla and fold in half.

Fry the tacos

  • In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully add the folded tacos and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Serve

  • Top the tacos with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and salsa before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, replace the meat with sautéed vegetables or beans.
